Trine University contributed nearly 6,000 pounds of food to the Fremont Youth and Community Outreach Food Pantry as part of Community Harvest Food Bank’s sixth annual U Can Crush Hunger competition, which ended Nov. 12.
In the university’s first year participating, Trine gave the equivalent of 5,860 pounds of food, good for fifth place of the seven colleges and universities competing. A total of 100,570 pounds of food was raised through the competition, which will provide meals to hungry students, seniors, children, veterans and families in northeast Indiana.
Christian Campus House was the top collecting student organization on the Trine campus for penny wars, raising $270.41, which equates to 1,081.64 pounds of food. The university as a whole raised $688.05 through penny wars.

Established in 1983, Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc. feeds 21,100 people every week. Last year, CHFB distributed 17.1 million pounds of food to nearly 80,000 unique individuals in the nine counties of northeast Indiana. For more information, visit chfb.org.
