Golf outing raises more than $94,000 for scholarships

August 09, 2018

On a perfect day for golf, Trine University alumni and friends hit the fairways at Zollner Golf Course to raise more than $94,000 for student scholarships.

With a high of 81 degrees under partly cloudy skies, the university’s 28th Annual Alumni & Friends Scholarship Golf Outing on Friday, Aug. 3, offered ideal conditions for 67 teams that played golf and ate meals prepared by Bon Appetit catering.

The event raised a total of $94,147.

First place went to a team sponsored by Risk Strategies: Tom Casaburo, Clint Beasley, Chris Copley and Ryan Copley. In second place was a team of Trine faculty and friends made up of Cat Benson, Cisco Ortiz, Dan Miller and Dan Hough. A team sponsored by Shambaugh and Sons — Jason Biddle, Matt Clayton, Zach Solmonson and Nick Ihrie — finished third.

Mike Hamilton won the 50/50 drawing.

Several raffle prizes were generously donated, including rounds at local golf courses, golf clubs, and gift certificates to area restaurants. Event and other major sponsors included AMI Investment Management, Metal Technologies Inc., Parkview Health, Bon Appetit Management Company, Michael Kinder & Sons, Chuck and Rita Nedele, North Star Blue Scope and Risk Strategies.

The annual golf outing benefits the Trine Fund for student scholarships, which enables deserving students to earn a degree at Trine. The 2019 outing is scheduled for Aug. 2.
