Alum co-authors article in Iron & Steel Technology

December 17, 2018

Dustin Arvola BSME 2016 co-authored an article that was published in the October 2018 issue of Iron & Steel Technology, the magazine published by the Association of Iron & Steel Technology (AIST).

Arvola said the article, “Effect of Phase Solidification Sequence In Stainless Steel on Grain Refining Efficiency,” grew out of research to improve the properties of cast stainless steel. He worked on the research while pursuing a Master of Science in Metallurgical Engineering degree at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

“In order to give my research exposure, I submitted an abstract to the Association of Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) to present at their annual technical conference (AISTech) in 2018,” he said. “They accepted my abstract, I wrote a publication, and presented it at the conference.”

He said that out of all the papers presented, only a select few are published in the magazine, based on originality and how well the article was written. Papers published in the magazine are typically selected for awards during the following year at AISTech.
