Parrish named Woman of the Year

MARCH 16 – Trine University’s School of Professional Studies is proud to announce that Katie Parrish has been awarded the 2015 American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), Women of Magnitude chapter, Woman of the Year distinction.

Parrish is the senior enrollment specialist at the Fort Wayne School of Professional Studies. She also acts as the vice president of programming for the Women of Magnitude chapter of the ABWA.

To be selected as the Woman of the Year, applicants must demonstrate ways in which they went above and beyond to improve personally and professionally and to support the mission of ABWA over the course of the previous year. Categories the applicants were scored on included mentoring and assisting co-workers and community members, leadership skills and ABWA involvement, community involvement, business advancement and education.

In addition to receiving the Woman of the Year award, Parrish also received a Protégé Award. Six out of 43 members were recognized with this honor, which recognizes women for actively supporting the mission of the ABWA. Recipients were required to be in good standing, to have recruited at least one new member, to have completed one year of membership with Women of Magnitude, to actively participate in meetings and activities and to have used leadership skills to assist in achieving league goals.

The ABWA aims to bring together business women of a multitude of occupations and to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth through leadership, education, networking support and national recognition. For more information, visit abwa.org.

INDIANAPOLIS — Bethany Morgan Schmitt, a Trine University sophomore from Fort Wayne, Indiana, majoring in exercise science/pre-physical therapy, was one of 29 first-generation Indiana college students named as a “Realizing the Dream” recipient by the Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI).
