Golf outing raises nearly $100,000 for scholarships

Trine University supporters came together Friday on the links of Zollner Golf Course for fun, food and fundraising.

A total of 71 teams raised more than $97,000 at the 26th Annual Alumni & Friends Scholarship Golf Outing, setting records for participation and total money raised at this event.  

First place was won by Kappa Sigma alumni Alex Lorencz ‘10, Shawn Floyd ‘09, Andrew Lesher ‘10 and Mat Iacobelli ‘09. Second place was captured by a team representing the Risk Strategies Company. Auburn Concrete and Masonry came in third place.

Other winners of the day included T. Casaburo, who won $520 in the 50/50 drawing, and Jacob Benedict, who came within 13 inches of sinking a hole using a goalie hockey stick on the putting green challenge; he walked away with a Kindle Fire donated by Staples Business Advantage.

Several other raffle prizes were generously donated, including a Taylor Made SLDR Driver, restaurant gift certificates and golf course passes. Event and other major sponsors included Metal Technologies, Inc.; Parkview Health; AMI Investment Management; Bon Appetit Management Co.; Auburn Concrete and Masonry; Steve and Wendy LaHood; Chuck and Rita Nedele; and Republic Services.

The annual golf outing benefits the Trine Fund for student scholarships, which enables deserving students to earn a degree at Trine. The 2017 outing is scheduled for Aug. 4.
