Former MIAA Player of the Year for softball enters hall of fame

ANGOLA, Ind. – A softball player who was the first in school history to be named the MIAA Player of the Year, and who also starred on the volleyball team, was inducted into the Trine University Hall of Fame on Oct. 5.

Rainbow (Bednarski) McGregor led the Thunder on the softball field and volleyball court from 2003 to 2007. McGregor, of Elkhart, graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.

In 2007, McGregor made school and program history when she was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year. A four-year starter at shortstop, McGregor was first team All-MIAA in 2006 and 2007 and is the all-time career leader in stolen bases and assists. She was coached by Donnie Danklefsen, Trine's head coach for softball.

In volleyball, McGregor was named MIAA honorable mention in 2004, 2005 and 2006. A four-year starter, she holds the record for most assists in a single match. She is second in all-time career assists, third in all-time assists per set and fifth in all-time career digs. In single season records, McGregor is first in most assists per set and second in most assists. During her volleyball career at Trine, McGregor was coached by Alena Krum and Sarah Steele.
