April 08, 2013

ANGOLA, Ind. – Trine University's Campus Christian House presented its distinguished faculty award during its 27th annual banquet on Saturday, April 6.

Timothy Tyler, Ph.D., a professor in the Reiners Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, received the 2013 award.

Senior class members of Christian Campus House (CCH) nominated and selected Tyler for the award, citing his joy for teaching, influence and caring for students.

"Dr. Tyler is an amazing individual," one nominator wrote. "If a student is having trouble understanding something, he is willing to lay down what he was working on and focus on the student until the problem is resolved. Dr. Tyler always brings a relaxed, fun and professional atmosphere to the Civil Engineering Department."

Another student nominator mentioned that Tyler cares about students and what is happening outside of the classroom, too.

"I have spent countless hours in his office talking, not only about engineering, but about my life and schedule. We discussed worship leading, job searching, internships, family," the nominator wrote. "He doesn't spend time on his students, he invests it."

Tyler earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from West Virginia University and a doctorate degree from Virginia Tech.

This is the second year that CCH has presented the award. Last year Sean Carroll, Ph.D., electrical engineering professor, won the award.

CCH offers spiritual direction for students. Travis Wilhelm, university chaplain, is the director of CCH.
