ANGOLA, Ind. – A Trine University alumnus has been named the 2013 Assistant Professional of the Year by the Indiana Section PGA.

Kyle Cramer, who graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in golf management, recently received the award that recognizes an individual assistant golf professional for his dedication to the game and commitment to the profession. Criteria that are considered are commitment to customer service, leadership ability and academic history.

"It is not surprising that Kyle would earn such an honor," said Bill San Giacomo, head men's golf coach. "His love of the game and commitment to advancing golf are sure to be reflected in his work."

Cramer, a Logansport native, was honored for his work at Fort Wayne Country Club (FWCC) under head professional Todd Firestone. In February, Cramer was hired by Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. Congressional is home to two world-class golf courses, the Gold and the Blue, which has been the site of three U.S. Opens, a PGA Championship and annual PGA Tour events, according to GoldMaryland.com.

At FWCC, Cramer managed daily operations, training for a caddie program and two women's golf leagues that host 21 tournaments annually. He also created the golf schedule, budgets for golf operation and implemented cost-control procedures. Additionally, he assisted with tournament planning and offered lessons.

While at Trine, he organized an annual trip to Carlin Park Elementary School where professional golf management students gave elementary children free golf clinics. He also earned the Excellence in Golf Management Award, participated in golf for four years and was a member of four honor societies.
