Summary

The Academic Director is responsible for advising online students for program specific areas, and provides oversight to the online faculty and curriculum within the program area. The Academic Director inspires, challenges, and motivates online students to successfully complete their academic and career goals. The Academic Director ensures the program specific areas adhere to academic policies, procedures and philosophy of Trine University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise and register online students through personalized one-on-one advising.
  • Establish relationships with online students by building rapport and trust, maintaining a presence by phone, video conferencing, text, and email on a regular basis.
  • Support enrollment goals and retention activities through proactive student outreach, proper on-boarding and helping online students overcome potential barriers to success.
  • Ensure programs align with industry trends and update curriculum as needed.
  • Research and coordinate the development of new academic programs to align with needs of the workforce and prospective students.
  • Schedule discipline-related online courses and faculty each semester for online degree seeking students and other students at the university.
  • Resolve concerns of students enrolled in discipline-related online courses, online faculty, and other arising issues, as needed.
  • Provide oversight and support of online faculty and curriculum coordinators in content specific disciplines, and conduct evaluations based on established responsibilities.
  • Maintain relationships and collaborate with academic professionals (department chairs, deans, etc.) in similar program specific areas at Trine University to ensure quality educational experiences.
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Academics for the College of Graduate and Professional Studies/TrineOnline, Director of Online Learning and Director of Instructional Design and Development to confirm all faculty teaching online are appropriately qualified, trained and certified.
  • Meet with admissions regularly and assist with admission efforts when needed, including completing unofficial transfer evaluations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Master's degree in the field of study of academic oversite is required.

Preferred:

  • Five (5) years of work experience in online learning or higher education.
  • Experience with advising students, knowledge of online instruction, and using Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Certification in Quality Matters or other online certification of quality control in distance delivery of educational content.
  • Experience with multiple modes of instructional delivery, as well as faculty oversight and coaching.
