Dual Enrollment

Students Parent(s) or Guardian(s)Higher Education Partners
The Office of Dual Enrollment is a dual enrollment partnership between Trine University
and local area public and private high schools as well as individual students, including
home school students. All courses offered through the Office of Dual Enrollment program
provide students with the opportunity to earn college credits that may also count
towards their high school diploma. As a Dual Enrollment student, you are considered
a Trine student, with all the benefits that come with it, including access to academic
resources facilities, and events. But some of the additional of the benefits of participating
in Trine Dual Enrollment is the potential to save time and money by taking courses
while still in high school and at a deeply discounted rate. One of the great benefits
about Dual Enrollment through Trine is that credits earned through the program can
transfer to any public, and many private, universities in the state of Indiana. For
more information about credit transfers and dual credit eligibility go to Indiana’s
Core Transfer Library or reference the IDOE’s Dual Credit Page and Crosswalk.
We offer a few different options or experiences for earning these college credits
Academic Experience, Online Experience, Campus Experience, and a new program called
the Guided Experience. Each experience may look and cost a little different but still
offer the same opportunities for students to engage and push themselves in a more
challenging curriculum, ease their transition between high school and college, build
skills necessary to achieve success in higher education, and of course save considerable
amounts of time and money. Each of these experiences are discussed in further length
below.
Trine’s Academic Experience, also known as concurrent enrollment, offers students the opportunity to earn college credits in their own high school classroom. Students are taught by their local high school teachers that are certified to teach collegiate level courses. These high school teachers collaborate with their Trine faculty liaisons throughout the course to create a collegiate level classroom experience. The cost of this option, where available, is only $25 a credit hour.
The Online Experience is offered through our exceptional TrineOnline program. Students can expect convenience and accessibility as well as tremendous support from our staff and faculty. Students enrolled through this program have access to all of the supports each of the other programs offer as well as 24/7 access to academic tutors. Each course is taught asynchronously and is access through our online learning management system Moodle. This is a great opportunity for students who are homeschooled or if they are attending a high school that does not currently partner with Trine. This option costs $50 per credit hour, however for schools that partner with us that would like to offer this option with a larger group of students, the cost drops to $33 a credit hour.
Our Campus Experience is generally only offered to students who live near Trine’s beautiful main campus. Students will attend their courses here just like any other student on campus. They will also have direct access to our state-of-the-art library facilities, nicknamed The Link, as well as other resources located here on campus. The cost of this option is $95 a credit hour.
The newest addition to Trine Dual Enrollment is the Guided Experience program. Designed out of necessity, this new program combines the benefits from the expertise and resources of the Online Experience with the individualized and personalize supports of the Academic Experience. Students are enrolled in an online course and are also placed in a class in their local high school with a facilitating teacher. In this program each student gets then benefits of receiving the exemplary asynchronous instruction provided Trine’s own faculty and additional individualized supports from their local teachers to make sure the student has every chance at success in the course. Like the cost for the Online Experience, this option costs $50 per credit hour, however for schools that partner with us that would like to offer this option with a larger group of students, the cost drops to $33 a credit hour.
