My nursing career began in 1991 after receiving an associate degree in nursing from Lutheran College of Health Professions before working in cardiovascular intensive care unit (ICU), long-term acute care (LTACH) and long-term care (LTC). During 19 years in clinical practice, I functioned in several roles: direct patient care, infection control, quality control, clinical education and administration.

After I discovered that I was passionate about teaching and the professional development of nurses, I transitioned to the academic setting. Shortly thereafter, I became a board-certified nurse educator. I have been devoted to the education and professional development of nurses for 10 years now and can’t imagine doing anything else. Being a nurse has enabled me to practice the art of caring grounded in science, and to mentor numerous students over the past three decades.

Outside of class, I spend time with my children and grandchildren. We enjoy working in the garden, cooking and a variety of crafting projects.
